Away We Go

A few days ago I realized we have been planning this trip for a full two years. It is hard to believe we are leaving tomorrow, but the mounting evidence around us is starting to make it real. The house is clean and most of the clutter has been tucked away from where it can accumulate dust. There are almost no clothes left in Kalee's drawers (we, on the other hand, still have closets full of stuff), the cupboard and fridge are, quite literally, bare (thanks to friends, we have eaten quite well all week).

Tomorrow we turn down the thermostat, throw sheets over the beds and couches, make some sandwiches and hit the road. A most generous friend is driving us the two hours to Detroit where we will spend the night in a hotel. We'll have a swim in the pool, order pizza, spread left-over frosting on the last package of graham crackers for dessert, then try to get a good night's sleep. Monday we fly from Detroit to New York to Helsinki to Jyvaskyla, finally arriving in Jyvaskyla mid-afternoon on Tuesday Jan 5th.

The adventure finally begins.
Next post from Finland.
Love,
Jill

PS: Here's all our stuff.

  1. What a huge effort this must have been to get ready. Bon voyage!
